Look to the skyline of most major cities in the world and there is every chance you will notice an Australian made Favelle Favco crane working on top of a construction site.

For over 30 years, Favelle Favco has been at the leading edge of high-rise construction with cranes ranging from 60 metre tonnes up to 1800 metre tonnes.

While construction sites have been the reason for its well recognised name, Favelle Favco is also a world class manufacturer of a variety of specialised cranes used for offshore oil platforms, container loading/unloading on wharfs, handling timber in logging operations and railway applications.

Due to the nature of work they do, and the significant consequences of a 'faulty' crane, Favelle Favco work to stringent Australian and international standards, and utilise exhaustive internal quality systems.

This is not an industry that can cut corners. It is not about finding cheaper materials. One of the main reasons behind the ongoing success of Favelle Favco is the quality of its products. As Purchasing Officer, Anthony Peruch explains, "It's about dealing with reputable companies with strict quality guidelines and proven product performance. We cannot take risks."

"This is one of the reasons why we source our steel from BlueScope Steel. Steel is such an integral part of what we do, with up to 120 tonnes used in the larger cranes. Our application needs the highest quality steel and the XLERPLATE® product from BlueScope Steel more than meets our requirements.

"In addition to a quality product, we get excellent and reliable lead times from BlueScope Steel. This becomes so critical when we are building a crane for a specific project, such as the enormous crane now under construction in our Preston plant for the Melbourne Cricket Ground project.

"A key part of our continued success on the world stage is our reputation for being reliable, so we can't afford any suppliers to let us down. We know we can depend on BlueScope Steel," said Mr Peruch.

BlueScope Steel's 350 grade XLERPLATE® product is used extensively throughout the cranes for components such as: the mount which the crane slews on; the pedestal (section which whole crane sits on) on the oil rig cranes; and the machinery deck which houses the winch/power pack and the operator's cabin.
